Tippy Tappy
Set out a diagonal course using cones about 5 metres apart. Players simply move from cone to cone touching the cone with hand closest to it whilst calling out ‘Tippy’ or ‘Tappy’ and then back to the start before next player goes.
Additional Coaching Tips:
1. Instruct players to bend their legs as opposed to leaning over with big bend in back.
2. Set out a number of courses side by side so there are no more than 3 players at start of each one.
Adaptation/Progression:
Players can move more quickly to progress. Performing skills with the sliotar/football can also be introduced to advance.
L Drill
Lay out the cones in an ‘L’ shape approximately 5 metres apart. Players simply run forwards, side shuffles sideways in both directions and then backwards to the start. Players must touch the cone at each point.
Adaptation/Progression:
Incorporate hurling/football skills such as bouncing ,soloing, dribbling etc.
T Drill
Set out cones on the ground in the shape of the letter T about 3-5 metres apart. Players simply move out and around the different points of the T and then back to the start before next player goes.
Additional Coaching Tips:
1. Instruct players to run around each cone and to stay as close to cone as possible (turn quickly as opposed to veering a few steps from the cone.
2. Set out a number of courses side by side so there are no more than 3 players at start of each one.

Set out cones of 3 different sets of coloured cones around the playing area. On the whistle players simply move around the area holding a ball and touch 3 different cones but all must be same colour.

Touch the Cones with ball in hand
Set out cones of 3 different colours around the playing area. On the whistle players simply move around the area holding a ball and touch 3 different cones but all must be same colour.

Touch the Cones with hurl in strong hand
Set out cones of 3 different colours around the playing area. Players are holding hurl in strong hand using a short ‘hammer grip’. On the whistle players simply move around the area and touch 3 different cones of any colour and then return back to the start before next player goes. Next instruct players that they much touch 3 different cones but all must be same colour.

Touch the Cones & bounce ball in between
Set out cones of 3 different colours around the playing area. On the whistle players simply move around the area and touch 3 different cones but all must be same colour. A bounce is performed in between each cone.

Knee Boxing
Set out cones of 3 different colours around the playing area. On the whistle players simply move around the area and touch 3 different cones but all must be same colour. A bounce is performed in between each cone.

Foot Fencing
Players in pairs and stand facing each other.
Aim of game is to try to touch the other players foot with your foot as they try to do the same.
Both players are actively trying to avoid opponent touching their feet.
A point is awarded each time you touch the other players foot.
Adaptation/Progression:
Progress playing in groups of 3 to change the dynamic and give players a further opponent to focus on.
Leap Frog Chasing
Pick 2-4 ‘catchers’ and mark out playing area.
Similar to normal chasing catchers are trying to catch as many people as possible.
Once caught, players crouch/kneel down on ground and make themselves as small as possible.
They can be freed if any of their team mates ‘leap-frog’ over them at which point they are back in the game.

Hoola Hoop Bases
Pick 2-4 ‘catchers’ and mark out playing area.
Lay some hoola hoops around the playing area.
Similar to normal chasing catchers are trying to catch as many people as possible.
Once caught players perform certain activity (jumping jack, legs open for someone to crawl through etc).
A player is safe if they are in a hoola hoop but must perform 3 jumping jacks before moving out of the hoola hoop.

Paired Dodgems
Players in pairs holding hands.
Assign one or two pairs as ‘catchers’.
All pairs must run linked together the whole time, catchers are trying to catch as many pairs as possible.
Once caught the pair stands still with arms still linked but with a gap between them.
They can be freed if any other pair runs under their arms.
Drop Ball Sprints
Players in pairs approx 3 mtrs apart.
One player holds ball up high and drops it on coach’s call.
Other player must run in and gather possession before ball bounces twice.
Make a game of it by seeing how many times out of 10 each player can successfully gather possession.
Additional Coaching Tips:
Instruct players to run through the ball and gather it in and hold securely.
Adaptation/Progression:
If too easy instruct player holding ball to drop from a lower height. Token pressure can also be added by the player dropping the bal;l as other player attempts to gather possession.
Hot Potato Sprints
Players in pairs standing about 1 meter apart with ball between two.
Players throw/hand pass the ball back and forth.
When the coach signals,whoever has the ball must run to a line 5 meters behind them before their partner catches them.
Additional Coaching Tips:
1. Allow players to throw ball if hand passing is too difficult.
2. Instruct players to give passes to partners chest/tummy so ball stays off ground as much as possible.
Adaptation/Progression:
Make more difficult by telling players they must hop on one leg whilst passing and moving toward line.
